Student Rights

Saint Paul College, as a part of Minnesota State College and Universities, operates in accordance with all the regulations of these two governing bodies. The Higher Education Board recognizes that your rights as a student must be respected. These rights include the following:

Directory Information/Data Privacy

Saint Paul College in compliance with the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), affords students certain rights with respect to their education records. Students can inspect and view their records within 45 days of the date the College Registrar receives a written request for access. Students may ask the College to amend a record by writing to the Registrar and clearly identifying what part of the record is inaccurate. Records will not be released to a third party without permission from the student except to those officials or agencies with specific legal authorization. The following information has been designated as directory information, and, as such, is available to the general public: student name; address; telephone number; date of birth; major program of study; dates of attendance; degrees, diplomas, certificates and awards received; full or part time status; participation in recognized activities. To prevent release of this information outside of the College, the student should contact the Registrar’s office to sign the non-disclosure form by the 5th day of the term.

Saint Paul College, as part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination in employment and education opportunity in that no person shall be discriminated against in the terms and conditions of employment, personnel practices, or access to and participation in, programs, services, and activities with regard to race, sex, color, creed, religion, age national origin, disability, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation, or membership or activity in a local commission as defined by law.

Due Process

Saint Paul College has a Student Grievance/Student Due Process procedure. If a student believes a valid complaint should be registered against any member of the staff about content or conduct of a course, grading, tuition, or any other school policy or procedure or fellow student, the due process procedures may be obtained from the Office of Vice President of Administrative Affairs and Student Services. If you feel that any of your rights have been violated, contact your advisor, counselor, or the Administration Office at 651.846.1360 for assistance.
